FOOD SHARE SEEKS ANSWERS TO HUNGER, POVERTY
Hunger and poverty are complex issues that require comprehensive and integrated solutions. To help in the process of developing long-term answers to these pervasive social issues, Marion-Polk Food Share conducted a year-long 2010 Hunger Study. The report funded by a $50,000 grant from the Northwest Health Foundation Kaiser Permanente Community Fund, takes an in-depth look at hunger and poverty in Marion and Polk counties.

The 132-page report looks at such things as why people are hungry, what brought customers to a food pantry or meal site, barriers to food access and social service resources, barriers to getting ahead, and overcoming those barriers. The study also includes suggested recommendations for addressing needs, involving the community in the hunger fight and increasing individuals’ self-sufficiency. For the complete Hunger Study click here
