Ending Childhood Hunger

Our Community Kitchen is proud partner with OSU Extension Service and Share Our Strength, a national non-profit focused on ending childhood hunger, to bring SHOPPING MATTERS tours to Salem, Keizer, West Salem, and Silverton area grocery stores.

These short one-hour tours facilitated by trained SHOPPING MATTERS volunteers are designed to help families with limited food dollars make the most of economical but healthy food choices when they shop for produce, whole grains, and packaged foods in local markets. Participants are provided with free workbooks, calculators, and shopping bags, and are given the opportunity to practice examining different types of food labels for maximum good nutrition as well as comparing unit prices for best value.

Tours are offered to small groups at Safeway, Roth's, WinCo, Fred Meyer, and Food4Less stores several times each month. To request a tour date and time in your area, or to find out about training to be a SHOPPING MATTERS tour guide,  Tonya Johnson, OSU Extension Service Family & Community Health, at 503-373-3763.
