Sustainable Community Gardens Program

Learning, Empower, Nourish

Together as a community of gardeners, Marion-Polk Food Share is cultivating a DEEP relationship with our two-county region to grow rooted and sustainable garden projects that emphasize hands-on education and leadership within neighborhood, school, church, prison and the community gardens.

During the 2009 growing season the Sustainable Community Garden Program brought in over 100,000 pounds of produce via “Grow-a-Row” and through the gardens that we coordinated or otherwise assisted with. This season, a handful of new projects are sprouting, and more importantly, a structure is being build to empower partnerships that grow the program effectively into the future. It is with volunteers and community partners that the program thrives, and it is why the 2010 season is all about community empowerment.

You are invited to learn about and participate in the growth of the gardens program; learn from experienced gardeners at regular garden workshops and events; and come to understand why we are taking the approach that we are. Each of the 30+ gardens that are underway this year are in need of your assistance. We thank you connecting with a food share garden near you, and for helping us champion this important cause.
