Volunteers are the lifeblood of Marion-Polk Food Share. We rely on the time, talents, and resources of our volunteers to keep our warehouse running and our administrative offices humming. Also, we often call upon community volunteers for special events.

Help make a difference
We have a variety of volunteer opportunities including handling food, clerical service, driving, gardening and many other imaginative ways to assist us in ending hunger. After reviewing our website, please take a moment to complete our online application. A volunteer manager will contact you to discuss your interests and schedule a time for you to visit the Marion-Polk Food Share. (Please note volunteers under age 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult.)

For information, Janet Spingath at 503-581-3855 ext. 311 or jspingath@marionpolkfoodshare.org .We welcome volunteers who need community service hours for school credit. We also have a limited number of opportunities for court-mandated volunteers to participate.

Warehouse/Office
Volunteers helping move food through the warehouse will receive training in food handling safety before beginning work. Other volunteers will meet with specific staff members to work on various office projects. All volunteers are encouraged to schedule a tour through the warehouse and learn about the variety of ways Marion-Polk Food Share is acting to end hunger.

We generally can host groups of 18-20 volunteers in the warehouse, subject to project type and availability. Larger groups can be accommodated with special planning. We are happy to work with you to provide the resources you need to run a successful group project for Marion-Polk Food Share. Sign up here or go to http://database.handsonmwv.org/home/home.jsp.

Gardens
Enjoy working outdoors? Our community gardens and edible landscape project offer opportunities to address the root causes of hunger. Opportunities include garden leadership, organization and general gardening throughout the community. Sign up here or go to http://database.handsonmwv.org/home/home.jsp

Fresh Alliance
We need volunteers who can commit to regular, weekday shifts to help sort, inspect and label fresh food, such as meat, dairy and produce, donated by local grocery stores. Fresh Alliance volunteers need to be age 16 or older and able to comfortably lift 25 pounds. Most Fresh Alliance volunteers attend the same shift each week, making strong friendships. Drivers
Volunteer drivers, using their own vehicles, are needed to pick up food donations from local grocery stores and bread outlets for delivery to the Marion-Polk Food Share warehouse. Drivers will work with the warehouse crew to unload the bounty. Sign up here or go to http://database.handsonmwv.org/home/home.jsp
