CURRENT VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Food Sorting and Bulk Food Repack in our Volunteer Action Center
Shifts available Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Training provided.
Must be able to lift and move up to 40 lbs. with some bending and stretching.

Pull and Prepare Agency Orders in our Warehouse.
Every Friday. 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. or until all orders are filled. Training provided.
Must be able to lift and move up to 40 lbs. with some bending and stretching.

Drivers and Driver’s Assistants.
Your vehicle or our trucks for special events, barrel pick up and delivery, bread runs,
and on-call as back-up for our regular route drivers. Shifts available Monday-Friday, mornings or afternoons. Must be over age 21 with current driver’s license and proof of insurance.

Warehouse Crew Chiefs.
Supervise morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend shifts in our Volunteer Action Center. Provide training to new volunteers, maintain supplies, and oversee set-up and clean-up for group projects. Background check and references may be required.

Administrative Support.
Provide back-up for our Clearing phones and front-desk reception. Serve as a dock greeter or a tour guide. Help us as a translator. Prepare brochures and mailings. If you are a people person, this is the job for you.

WOW Squad.
If you are a handy person, we could use your time and talents for weekly clean-up and spruce-up of our facility, our landscaping, and our trucks. Help Marion-Polk Food Share put its best foot forward!

The Fair Affair.
Join our team of volunteers who represent Marion-Polk Food Share at fairs and events throughout Marion and Polk Counties. Staff our information tables and booths, greet and inform the public, provide materials and brochures about our programs and services. Training provided. Opportunities vary, but many are evening or weekend.

The Gratitude Project.
We can’t thank those who support our efforts often enough: volunteers, donors, special event hosts, community partners. Join our Gratitude Team meeting once a week to make phone calls and write thank you notes to acknowledge the service given by our friends and neighbors.

Senior Nutrition Distribution Assistant
Maintain inventory and stock shelves for our mobile pantries going out to senior housing areas once a month. Coordinate volunteer drivers and “shopping assistants.” Training provided.

Media Hounds.
Project could be done from home after training. We are looking for sleuths to help us identify media opportunities for Marion-Polk Food Share to get the word out about what we do, and why and how we do it. Ideally, these volunteers will have excellent phone skills and research abilities. Help us create a directory of contacts for press releases, advertising, blog posts, etc. Training provided.

Pulse Team.
Provide an extra pair of hands and a listening ear as you serve as a Marion-Polk Food Share ambassador for a member pantry or meal site near you. Help us identify what works and what could work better in the services we provide. Be our information resource as you work with and talk with volunteers “in the field” and the clients we all serve. Training required for a commitment of a morning or afternoon once a week. Must have transportation. Volunteers should be “people persons” who can communicate effectively and graciously listen and learn.
