WHAT IS A COMMUNITY KITCHEN?

“For many of us, the kitchen is where our families gather. It’s a place where great conversations occur and often, problems are solved. The Community Kitchen at Marion-Polk Food Share can be that place where the Salem community gathers. [It] can be the place where we challenge our current way of thinking, take some non-traditional approaches, and share our resources to end hunger."

The board, staff and volunteers of Marion-Polk Food Share are committed to ending hunger now, and ending hunger long –term.
To end hunger now, we are working with over 96 local member charities to provide food boxes and meals for local residents struggling in hunger. This is important not only to meet immediate need, but also because we must break the cycle of poverty that perpetuates hunger.
Ending hunger, now is vitally important. However, we believe that it is not enough. We must also develop and implement solutions that will end hunger long-term.
Our Community Kitchen is an important resource for doing just that.
