What is Women Ending Hunger?
Women Ending Hunger is an auxiliary of Marion-Polk Food Share (MPFS). MPFS collects nearly 5 million pounds of food each year for distribution to the hungry in Marion and Polk counties. Unfortunately, the need continues to grow and it has become more difficult to meet that ever-increasing need.
Women have historically been catalysts for social change. Hunger affects women disproportionally, so it is natural that women would step up to tackle this problem.

What will Women Ending Hunger do?

Ending hunger in Marion and Polk counties has two parts:
  • Long-term - working as a community to eliminate the root-causes of poverty and hunger
  • Current - helping families who are in need of food assistance right now

The goals of Women Ending Hunger are to:

  • Reduce the number of individuals and families, in Marion and Polk counties, who are food insecure and/or hungry
  • Increase community food security through creative, and collaborative projects at the neighborhood, city and county levels
  • Support local, state, and federal policies and programs to ensure that the local food economy is strong, sustainable and accessible to all
  • Strengthen the local economy through innovative collaborations that leverage existing resources and move people towards financial self-sufficiency

    Are there membership dues?

No, dues are not required, but members are encouraged to become Sustainers of Marion-Polk Food Share.

Sustainers are among Food Share's most committed givers. They fight hunger by making a monthly contribution (minimum of $5) which is automatically deducted from their checking account or credit card. It's easy. No checks to write, no stamps to buy!

Sustainer giving is cost effective for Marion-Polk Food Share, and guarantees regular and predictable income. This allows MPFS to plan for and support much needed programs all year long.

    How can I get involved?

Members of Women Ending Hunger are becoming involved at whatever level, and in whatever way, they determine best for their own personal circumstances and situations.
