Mano a Mano Family Center, a partner agency in the Marion-Polk Food Share hunger-relief network, has launched a 50/50 fundraising effort to benefit both organizations.
Nearly one-third of all people in Salem live in poverty, Mano a Mano reported. Latinos are particularly hit hard, as the State of Oregon describes Latino Oregonians as being more likely to live in poverty than Latinos living anywhere else in this country.
One-third of Latinos in Marion-Polk Counties live in poverty and qualify to receive an emergency food box, from one of the more than 90 food banks in our area. To help these families, Mano a Mano suggests supporting its family center and MPFS with a tax-deductible monthly contributions of $10 or more as a Sustainer Circle member. Half of the contribution would go to each organization.
Mano a Mano Family Center is the oldest Latino community organization in the Salem-Keizer area of Oregon. The goal of its programs is to support the development of strong nurturing families and communities.
Marion-Polk Food Share is the regional food bank serving Marion and Polk counties through a network of 97 member agencies. It also supports initiatives that are designed to help people in need become more self-sufficient and less reliant upon emergency food.
