Roth’s Fresh Markets customers in Marion and Polk counties will have an opportunity to help fight hunger at the checkout stand April 27 through June 7. “We are so pleased to have Roth’s Fresh Markets and its customers as hunger-fighting partners,” said Marion-Polk Food Share (MPFS) President Ron Hays. “Donations typically start slowing down around this time of year, so this fund drive is very important to us at a time when the need for emergency food services continues to rise.” Customers will have the option to scan a $1, $5 or $10 coupon at the checkout stand. Those funds will go to MPFS, the not-for-profit regional food bank that supplies food to 95 direct-service partners throughout the two-county service area. Food is distributed at a rate of nearly four semi-truck loads each week to keep emergency food supplies flowing to where they are needed. Nine Roth’s stores located in Salem, Keizer, Independence, Silverton and Stayton are participating in this funds drive. To find a store, go to www.roths.com/contact.php. ...

New Teaching Kitchen Means MPFS Will be Fighting Hunger on Two Fronts There've been a lot of notes lately, along with checks we get in the mail: "Wish it could be more, but I'm on Social Security." "I'd gladly give more if I could, but doctors and prescriptions are taking what little I have. "My daughter says I should stop giving to you because I'm barely getting by, myself, but I know there are many who have it worse than me."
