Director of Community Programs

Statement of Purpose: Develop and lead effective, creative programs that increase food access and food security in the communities of Marion & Polk Counties. Summary of Role: The Director of Community Programs is responsible for leading a community-led, community-driven approach to increasing access to healthy food.

Organic Farming Intern

The Organic Farming Internship is a 3-month working experience on an urban vegetable farm designed to give aspiring farmers extensive training in all aspects of organic crop production and community farming. Interns will gain supervised experience in greenhouse and field operations, tractor cultivation, planting techniques, irrigation management, pest and weed control, harvest methods, and distribution systems. Interns will learn alongside farm staff and youth volunteers in the field, the greenhouse, and the packing shed. Interns will interface with the community at our weekly prescription vegetable distributions and through volunteer work days. Finally, interns have the opportunity to develop an independent project on the farm to explore an area of personal interest related to organic farming.

Farm and Garden Assistant

The Farm and Garden Assistant is responsible for maintaining adequate infrastructure in Marion Polk Food Share’s community garden network and at the Youth Farm. This position supports 40 core community gardens by assisting partners with resource deliveries, light construction, and irrigation projects. At the Youth Farm, this position assists with farm production during the active growing season and maintains small equipment and facilities year-round.
